In recent months, we've been working with SEIU - the Service Employees International Union. It's a very different client from our corporate clientele, and as such, has offered many learning opportunities. SEIU is growing very quickly and the demands on its employees are dramatic. Adding new staff while simultaneously fostering a supportive culture that results in high employee retention has been truly challenging.
The old quandry of "Do I support my staff or the needs of the business?", comes up for these folks everyday. It's always tempting to take the short-term view and support the business needs at the expense of the longer-term staff issues. Unfortunately, this typically puts us into a vicious cycle that is very difficult to break!
To assist SEIU, we have customized a series of supervisory training programs that shore up both their headquarters and 'locals', providing a solid base and structure for their continued growth. To be successful, we have walked a thin line, solidly respecting the organization's past traditions while also encouraging new modes of operating and developing staff. It's a grand journey, and we've walked it in unison, in partnership with our client.
